Legit Ways to Make Money from Home
I know that if you google “ways to make money from home’ you will probably to get alot of spam and scams. But as someone who has been working from home since 2011, before it was even ‘heard of” there are really over 100, but most of them will fall in these 3 categories.
My Motto when regarding working from home is this: Sell What’s in Your House. Remember the story of the widow who’s husband had died and left her with lots of debt. Elijah asked her “what do you have in your house?” and she answered “Nothing, save a jar of oil.” And the story goes as she poured out she filled so many vessels that she had enough to live on and pay off her debt. I live by that principle. I always look to myself first. What do I have already in my possession? My skills, my talents, and my “stuff” So how do we monetize these things? Lets see.
- Monetizing Your Skills: What did you do for a former employer? Where you an admin assistant? Consider being a virtual assistant to professionals. Were you a telemarketer? Consider being focusing on serving realtors, accountants, or small business professionals who need to make calls but prefer to focus on their area of specialty. As a young mom of 3 there were always times that a kid was sick or had to leave school, so I had to consider using my skills to create income. I started my business by contracting with restaurants and cafe’s with event marketing services, and offer them I was being paid by corporate restaurants to do as a W-2 employee to do. Get creative but every skill set can be transferred into a business idea.
- Utilize Your Talents: We are all born with the ability to do something better than most people. Whether it’s hard skills such as: lawn care, decorating, baking, crafting, painting, sewing, or organizing. Some like me have soft skills such as talking, teaching, encouraging, engaging others. These things translate in the the world as : tutoring, public speaking, sales, mentoring, coaching and facilitating workshops.
- Selling Online: This is one of my main side hustles. I have always sold at consignment shows, festivals, or online platforms such as Ebay, Poshmark, and Craigslist. I’ve flipped furniture, sold clothes that my kids have grown out of and selling things in my garage or my husbands closet(LOL). Don’t roll your eyes at this one. There are ALOT of resellers on Poshmark and Ebay that are making between 50k-100k selling online, and it isn’t hard once you get the hang of it. It does take focus, commitment and time but it mostly it takes belief and faith. I’ve personally sold on Poshmark for about 5 years, only getting serious in the past 2 years. It is a lucrative side hustle.
So your homework is to begin brainstorming your skills, your talents, and things in your house. Put them in three separate lists Do this at a time when you can really think about it. I’d love to hear what you’ve come up with and if you need help with implementation reach out to me, we can do a brainstorming sess! Talk to you next time!
